We’ve had a minor taste of Fall these last couple of days and it’s absolutely absurd to think that next weekend is already Labor Day weekend! To savor the last of these sweet summer days (and nights), we’ve put together a quick list of five things you should do before summer is over and the daily routine of school begins!
1.) Pitch a tent in your backyard – The only thing better than being able to sleep under the stars and wake up with the rising sun, is being able to do it while still having full access to a stocked fridge and a nice, clean bathroom just yards away!
2.) Set up a lemonade stand – Enjoy the last days of the sweltering summer heat with a nice, cold lemonade stand. Use the money your kiddo’s earn to treat them to brand new school supplies of their choice, or better yet, donate it to their teachers to put towards communal materials for the classroom.
3.) Go to a drive-in movie – You’ll have to go a little ways out of the neighborhood for this one, but we’ve heard it’s well worth it! Rally up friends and family and head out of town for an evening at the Highway 18 Outdoor Theatre. Dates and show times vary, but they will be open almost every weekend until September 16th.
4.) Host an evening of outdoor night games – Gather up the neighborhood for a friendly game of Ghost in the Graveyard, Capture the Flag or Flashlight Hide and Seek! Take advantage of the sun setting earlier to get a couple of games in before bedtime.
5.) Grill out – It’s the perfect time to take advantage of the beautiful bounty of summer produce now available at Farmer’s Markets and grocery stores and pair it with your favorite item to grill. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be fancy. Even hot dogs have a certain je ne sais quoi when enjoyed on a perfect summer evening!
Whatever you decide to do, enjoy it in full. It’s hard to believe now, but these summer days are fleeting and while Fall is an incredible season on it’s own, we’ll definitely miss all that comes with this sunny season. How do you celebrate the end of summer? Let us know in the comments below!
