With the news of the global pandemic surrounding us, we thought it would be fun to lighten things up a bit and provide you with the groundwork you need to host some springtime fun – whether that be at your own home or with participation from your entire neighborhood.  Let’s get started!

This egg scavenger hunt can go two ways, consider it a choose your adventure type of thing.  You can (a) host a contactless neighborhood egg scavenger hunt or (b) host an at home scavenger hunt for everyone you are currently sheltering in place with.  If you want to do less coloring, I suggest you go with option a – start recruiting your neighbors now.  Whatever you choose, this is an easy way to have a little fun and get some Vitamin D.

We’re going to provide you with two printables for this hunt:  Egg Scavenger Hunt List Printable and Egg Scavenger Hunt Coloring Egg Printable.  But, if you don’t have a printer handy, just get creative.  Grab a notebook to recreate the list and freehand your eggs 😉

HOST A CONTACTLESS NEIGHBORHOOD EGG SCAVENGER HUNT:  It’s easy peasy, print off one or more eggs and color it as you please, then stick it up inside of your window or door for all to see.  Try to coordinate with your neighbors to ensure that you have all of the eggs covered from the Egg Scavenger Hunt List.  The eggs include the following variations:  red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, striped, spotted, rainbow, silly, sparkly, starry, flowery and creative.  Use the list to find all of the eggs throughout your neighborhood.

If you choose to do the neighborhood challenge, make sure you follow a few simple rules:

  • Establish a timeline for the scavenger hunt.  When will the hunt begin and end?  Be sure to give your neighbors enough time to get creative with their eggs.
  • Get on social media.  It’s best to post to a couple social media sites if you can, so you include as many of your neighbors as possible.  Try NextDoor and your neighborhood Facebook page (if applicable).  Make sure to tag a few neighbors that you know will be happy to participate.  Encourage your neighbors to post in the comments what egg variations they are doing and a clue as to where to find it – i.e. “Look out for a Yellow Egg on Main Street.”
  • Remember this is contactless, so while out hunting, practice social distancing of 6′ or more.  But, be sure to smile and wave at one another when you’re out.  Remember, we’re all in this together!

HOST AN AT HOME EGG SCAVENGER HUNT:  Print off 15 eggs, then color each of them to match the Egg Scavenger Hunt list:  red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, striped, spotted, rainbow, silly, sparkly, starry, flowery and creative.  Pop them up throughout your home (inside or outside) and let the egg hunting begin!
